The Orlando Thoroughbreds could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Massimo D'Elia into a win. Instead, the Pittsburgh Pirates prevailed, 3-1. D'Elia threw 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball. Pittsburgh reliever Maarten Jacobse was the winner. His record is now 1-1. The losing pitcher was Massimo D'Elia. The save went to Isaiah Baker, number 12 for him.
Diego Rodríguez had a direct impact on the outcome. Rodríguez contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth inning to put Pittsburgh up, 3-1.
"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said Pittsburgh manager Kris Abrams.
