Calgary Cougars won a nail-biting series against the Mexico City Diablo Rojos 4-3, wrapping up the Round 1 finale 5-0 at Ballpark of Calgary.

Cougars second baseman Pepi Alonso was named the series MVP.

He batted .400, drove in 3 runs and scored 4 to lead Calgary into the next round of play.

"Pepi was real solid for us, real solid," said Cougars manager . "I normally say I'd like to have nine of him out there, but thankfully we got by with just one this time."

The Calgary Cougars will play against the Tijuana Stars in the next round. Tijuana won their series against the Salt Lake Bees 4 games to 0. The Pacific Series schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes..
