Reds Rally Late to Clip Chicago
|
The Cincinnati Reds earned a close win over the Chicago Cubs, thanks in part to Bentley Maycumber. The Cincinnati right-hander, who is tied for 7th in the NL with a 1.13 WHIP, played a key role in the 3-2 victory. Cincinnati reliever Jeffrey Redick was the winner. His record is now 2-0. Noah Vitelki took the loss. The third-place Reds now have a win-loss record of 32-28.
The decisive blow was delivered by Layton Chandler in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a 2-run double off 23-year old right-handed pitcher Patrik Ádám to win the game for Cincinnati. The home crowd went nuts.
"Bentley's stuff looked really, really crisp," said JD Schloss, the Reds manager.
