Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Diamondbacks
|
The Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Houston Astros, 7-4, at Chase Field. Arizona third baseman Justino Mares had an outstanding performance. He went 3 for 4 with 3 singles. Mark Howe, 1-1, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.1 innings. Houston has now lost 5 straight.
Had it not been for Virisimo Vialpando, the results might have been different. In the bottom of the eighth inning, when the Diamondbacks were trailing 4-3, Vialpando hit a 2-run single for Arizona, giving his team the lead.
"I warned the team before the game," losing manager Austin Gravelle told reporters, "that I'm wearing the same pair of undies until we win."
