Mozer Batista of the El Cachón Salukis was on top of his game.
The 25-year-old tantalized the Barahona Twins with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 1-0.
"He had the changeup working," Barahona manager said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The El Cachón hurler had 10 strikeouts, gave up 1 walk and surrendered 5 hits in his complete-game effort.
Batista told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
Batista has taken the mound for no relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 8-1 record with a 1.31 ERA. The El Cachón reliever has limited opposing batters to a .188 batting average.
