Reds Nip Blue Jays, 3-2
|
Cincinnati Reds starter Motomi Yamaguchi was locked-in. He led his team to a win over the Toronto Blue Jays, 3-2. Yamaguchi yielded 2 runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 4, and struck out 1. His record improves to 4-4. The second-place Reds now have a win-loss record of 25-26.
The Blue Jays had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Reds going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old second baseman Kevin Simek came to the plate. Simek hit a 2-run home run on a 0-1 sinker from Toronto hurler Ram Van Dyke. It was Simek's 5th home run of the year.
"Well, it's always frustrating to lose," said Toronto manager Fraser Stewart.
