Guerra Fires Shutout in Cougars Victory
|
The Saint Paul Saints manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Calgary Cougars. The Saints were overpowered by Calgary starter Bijou Guerra, who hurled his club to victory, 4-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," said.
Over 9 innings, Guerra blanked Saint Paul on 4 hits with 2 walks and 19 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Guerra said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
This season Guerra has worked 175.1 innings with 294 strikeouts en route to a 13-7 record and a 2.62 ERA.
