The Chicago Cubs picked up a win at Great American Ball Park, taking down the Cincinnati Reds, 7-2. Starting pitcher Ruben Vergara was a big reason why. Vergara yielded 1 run over 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. His record improves to 32-5. Chicago's record now stands at 109-47, placing them first in the National League Central.

Chicago used a well-timed hit by Maggie MacCorkindale to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Cubs ahead, 4-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"I'm proud to wear a Chicago jersey," MacCorkindale told the Chicago Times. "We played a good game and came out with the win. What more can you ask for?"
