Expos Trip Reds, 9-6, in Extra Innings
|
It took 18 innings to settle this one.
The Montreal Expos used the hitting of second baseman Kelly Breckenridge to subdue the Cincinnati Reds, 9-6, in 18 innings. For the game, Breckenridge was 3-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs. Max Watkins, credited with the win in relief, is now 2-0. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 2 innings.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman József Horváth came to bat in the top of the 18th. Facing Cincinnati pitcher Slug Kinnick, he hit a 1-1 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Montreal on top, 7-5.
"Always feels extra good winning this kind of game," said Breckenridge.
The Expos now have a record of 73-80 with the win over Cincinnati.
