Cincinnati picked up a win at Busch Stadium, bumping off the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-4. Pitcher Van Nguyên was a major reason the Reds emerged victorious. Nguyên, now 10-12, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 7, walking 0, and allowing 4 runs. The loss makes St. Louis 100-51.
Cincinnati used the timely hitting of Jackson Royce to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Reds on top, 6-4. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
