New York right fielder Sherry Magee made his presence felt in the 7-4 Yankees triumph over the Boston Red Sox. Magee went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The win belonged to Dick Selma in relief. His record improves to 3-5. Jack Easton took the loss for Boston. Carlos Marmol picked up his 1st save of the season.

Lee Walls provided some late-game heroics for New York. In the bottom of the eighth inning, he hit a run-scoring single. It came on a 2-2 curveball from Jose Sosa and propelled New York to a 5-4 lead.

"I had a good game," said Magee. "Winning makes it even better."

New York is now 43-55.
