Cincinnati got a decent performance from pitcher Win Mercer, but it wasn't enough to beat the Chicago Cubs. Chicago won the Wrigley Field contest, 4-2. Mercer threw 8.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. The Cubs saw their record improve to 47-55.

Cliff Carroll had a big 2-run home run for the Cubs in the bottom of the third inning. With Chicago trailing 2-1 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from Win Mercer and swatted a home run to left. It was his 6th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cubs ahead, 3-2.

"I thought we played a nice game," Carroll told the Chicago Daily. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
