Cubs Earn 4-3 Road Win Over Philadelphia
The Chicago Cubs did just enough to sneak past the Philadelphia Phillies, 4-3, at Connie Mack Stadium. Chicago pitcher Bill Posedel, in particular, had a standout performance. The save went to Lady Baldwin, his 14th this season. The third-place Cubs now sit at 38-39.

The Cubs got a big at-bat from shortstop Bill Russell. For the game, Russell went 1-4 with a triple. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the third, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run triple. His 4th triple of the season gave Chicago a 2-0 lead.

Said losing manager Alan Phillies: "Not taking anything away from them, but we swung the bats better than what it showed."
