The Milwaukee Braves started the 1981 season win an impressive 4-3 win against the St. Louis Cardinals at County Stadium. David Price, who finished 2nd in the NL in strikeouts with 172 in 1978, led the way for Milwaukee. Juan Guzman earned the save for Milwaukee, his 1st of the year.
Milwaukee center fielder Bill Harbridge contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the second. With two down, he hit a fastball into center field for a 2-run single. It was his 1st hit of the season and put the Braves ahead, 3-1.
"If we keep winning the close games," Price said, "we'll be in good shape at the end."
