Watson Pitches Silver Sox to Shutout Victory
Friday, October 3rd , 1980
The San Jose Missions manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Reno Silver Sox. The Missions were overpowered by Reno starter Philip Watson, who hurled his club to victory, 11-0.

"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Edward Sterrett said.

Over 9 innings, Watson blanked San Jose on 2 hits with 7 walks and 12 strikeouts.

"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Watson said.

"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."

So far this season, Watson has compiled a 10-3 won-lost mark with no saves and a 2.94 ERA. In 125.1 innings he has fanned 149 and opponents are hitting him at a .184 clip.
