5-Hit Game for Wilborn
Wednesday, September 17th , 1980
Today at Lawrence Park, Ted Wilborn put on an impressive display.

The Salinas Angels center fielder tagged Lodi pitching for 5 hits in 6 at-bats, but his teammates were unable to capitalize on the spree and lost the game to the Lodi Dodgers by the score of 22-21.

"The loss takes some of the joy out of it, but I'll take it," Wilborn said. "5-for-6 ain't bad in any league."

Despite the terrific performance, the Angels manager was unwilling to offer the center fielder much praise, saying the "whole roster" is held accountable for losses.

"Ted told me 'Coach, I had 5 hits' and I said 'Well that's great, but it looks like we needed one more from you,'" manager Israel Perea said.

Ted Wilborn grounded out in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit a two-run single in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run single in the 7th, hit a solo-shot off Jim Unknown in the 8th and walked in the 9th.

In his stats this season, Wilborn has posted a batting average of .279 with 129 hits in 463 at-bats, 8 home runs and 68 RBIs. He has also scored 77 runs, walked 60 times and compiled a .362 OBP.
