Rocky Mount Blanks Triangles, Thorsland Wins Thursday, September 9th, 1971 Arne Thorsland led the Rocky Mount Leafs to a 4-0 shutout victory over the Raleigh-Durham Triangles at Devereaux Meadow today. "My pitching coach told me before the game just to bear down and focus," Thorsland recalled later. "He said no one was going to hit me if I'm throwing a good breaking ball with good location." Thorsland yielded 3 hits and had 4 strikeouts and 3 walks in the standout performance. "I thought he put the ball where he wanted to," Raleigh-Durham manager Bryan Phillips said. "And that's just about the whole secret to pitching." For the season Thorsland has logged 22 wins and 4 losses and struck out 277 batters in 245 innings while compiling a 2.83 ERA. |
