Gerberman Tosses 11-0 Shutout
Tuesday, August 31st, 1971
In an outstanding mound performance, Raleigh-Durham Triangles starter George Gerberman fired a complete-game shutout against the Winston-Salem Red Sox at Ernie Shore Field today.
Gerberman was the key to the Triangles's 11-0 win. The 29-year-old right-hander was in high spirits on the mount for much of the game, his mood largely undented by the 3 hits and 1 walk he allowed.
"3 hits?" he said with a laugh following the game. "Listen, I'd be happy with a 30-hitter as long as it was a shutout."
This year Gerberman has recorded a 20-2 mark. In 28 starts he has fanned 214 batters in 226.1 innings with a 2.47 ERA.
