Gerlach Grabs SALL Reliever of the Year Award

Jim Gerlach was dominant and cool under pressure this year, and his standout performance has earned the Columbia Mets reliever recognition as the 1990 South Atlantic League Reliever of the Year Award.

"I was just doing my job, and my job is to get people out," said the 33-year-old out of The United States.

The award winner made 54 relief appearances this year and had 15 saves. He fanned 82 batters in 107.1 innings, with 23 walks. He pitched to a record of 5 wins and 4 losses to go with his 2.18 ERA.

He received 12 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Rusty Meacham of the Augusta Pirates finished second in voting, while Mel Rojas of the Columbia Mets finished third.
