O'Neal Breezes to Shutout Victory Monday, August 13th , 1990 It wasn't easy but the Oklahoma City 89ers made it look that way. Starter Randy O'Neal shut out the Iowa Cubs despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the Oklahoma City 89ers cruised to victory, 8-0. O'Neal allowed only 7 hits and rang up 8 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win. "It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up." This year O'Neal has recorded a 9-10 mark. In 23 starts he has fanned 102 batters in 154.2 innings with a 4.60 ERA. |
