When Patrick McCoy jogged in from the bullpen this season, opposing teams knew they were going to have a tough time putting up runs.

The Toledo Mud Hens closer turned in a dominant campaign and has been named the International League Reliever of the Year Award winner for 1977.

His award-winning season saw the bullpen ace get 19 saves in 41 relief appearances, 48 strikeouts in 63.2 innings and only 39 walks. He had a record of 8 wins and 5 losses to go with his 2.83 ERA.

"I hope I can pitch like this every year," he said.

He received 6 first place votes out of a possible 8. Bill Caudill of the Syracuse Chiefs finished second in voting with 2 first place votes, while Dale Murray of the Syracuse Chiefs finished third.
