Mariners Win by Slim Margin, 2-1
|
Jeff Karstens played a key role in a gritty 2-1 Seattle Mariners win against the San Diego Padres. The win belonged to Doug Brandt in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Justin Verlander took the loss for San Diego. Seattle is now 21-43.
DJ LeMahieu had a critical at-bat with one out in the bottom of the eighth. The Seattle second baseman came through with a run-scoring single to put Seattle in front, 2-1.
"Jeff made the big pitches when he needed to," said Seattle manager Brian Boyd.
