The Oakland Athletics overcame a pretty good performance by Seattle first baseman Mark Teixeira, beating the Mariners, 9-4, at Safeco Field. Teixeira went 3-4 with 3 doubles, while scoring 2 times. With the win, Oakland has a record of 83-79. Seattle falls to 94-68.

In the top of the eighth, Oakland catcher Joel Galarraga hit a two-strike splitter to left field for a 2-run single. It put the Athletics up, 6-4.
