New York beat Philadelphia on the strength of starting pitcher Eric Surkamp's fine effort. The left-hander led his team to a win, 5-2. With the win over Philadelphia, the Mets improved to 55-55.

New York won the game in part because of Nelson Cruz. The right fielder ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Mets ahead, 2-0. For the game, Cruz had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.

"This kind of win will certainly make our fans happy," Cruz told the New York Bulletin.
