Oakland Rallies Past Boston, 12-11
|
For the home crowd, it was a thrilling walk-off win.
Boston designated hitter Ty Wigginton was sensational. He was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 4. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Oakland beat the Red Sox, 12-11. Steven Ames snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-0 on the season. Robert Findlay suffered the loss.
The game came to a climactic end in the bottom of the ninth. With Oakland trailing 11-9, Jason Kendall delivered the big blow, hitting a fastball from Robert Findlay for a bases-clearing double. Just like that, the Athletics had a walk-off win.
"This place was jumping at the end," Kendall said.
Oakland, at 48-47, holds down second place in the AL West Division.
