Tampa Bay Draws First Blood in World Series With 8-0 Win
John Lackey and the Tampa Bay Rays opened the World Series in brilliant fashion today, traveling to Pittsburgh and shutting out the host Pirates at PNC Park 8-0 to secure an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Lackey, the Rays right-hander, threw 8.0 innings of shutout ball.

Lackey, who was born in Abilene, Texas, threw 124 pitches over 8 innings, while allowing no runs.

"You can't take yourself too seriously," Lackey told the Tampa Bay Daily News. "But at the end of the day, we do play to win ballgames."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
