The San Juan Sharks could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Luis Marrero into a win. Instead, the New York Mets prevailed, 4-3. Marrero threw 5.1 innings of 2-hit ball. Joe Beck, credited with the win in relief, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1 innings. Picking up the save was fan favorite Chris Ewing.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Alpha Brittman? The slick-fielding second baseman Brittman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put New York up, 4-3. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"I like what I saw today," said New York manager Gustavo Molina, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
With the win, the Mets sit at 17-16.
