Bang-up Game: Rivera Slams 3 Homers Wednesday, June 14th , 2023 Washington HS Atlantics left fielder Juan Rivera sensed he was going to have a good day at the plate, but he still might have underestimated it a little. Prior to the start of today's contest with the Columbus HS Pirates, Rivera told teammates he was sure he would hit a home run. He did -- three times. "During batting practice I really had my swing down pat," he recalled. "I felt some thunder in the lumber." The big day from Rivera pushed the Atlantics past the Pirates, 20-8. To go along with the homers, he collected 8 RBIs and scored 4 runs. "I was seeing good, feeling good and swinging good," Rivera told reporters after the game. Juan Rivera walked in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Alejandro Cobian in the 3rd, struck out in the 3rd, hit a three-run home run off Juan Ayala in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off Randolph Juhl in the 7th and struck out in the 9th. Thus far this year Rivera is hitting .377 with 23 home runs, 69 RBIs and 54 runs scored. |
