With 6-5 Win, Braves Go to 97-54
|
The Atlanta Braves had to overcome a big game from Colorado left fielder Zac Veen to leave Colorado Field with a victory. And they did, winning 6-5. Veen went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks. He scored 2 times. Charlie Morton, the winner, improved to 10-8. He held Colorado to 1 run on 5 hits over 5 innings, while racking up 7 strikeouts. Atlanta improves to 97-54 with the win. They lead their division by 3½ games.
Atlanta used the timely hitting of Matt Olson to capture the win. The first baseman socked a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Braves ahead, 4-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Olson told the Atlanta Chronicle.
