Fans who congregated at Great American Ball Park were treated to extra-inning drama.

The inspired effort of Cincinnati left fielder Spencer Steer was not enough to prevent a loss, 7-5, to the New York Mets. Steer went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. The Mets move to 88-55 with the win, while the Reds drop to 59-84.

New York needed the clutch hitting of Pete Alonso to notch the win. The first baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the 13th inning to put the Mets on top, 7-5. For the game, Alonso had 1 home run and 1 single in 6 at-bats.

"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Alonso said.
