The New York Americans did just enough to sneak past the San Jose Bay Sox, 5-4, at American Stadium. New York first baseman Marwin Gonzalez, in particular, had a standout performance. Hector Neris recorded the save, making him 18 for 19. New York is now 67-75.
Had Zach Remillard not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Remillard hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Americans.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," San Jose manager Gil Velazquez said following the tough loss.
