The Providence Heat beat the San Antonio Texans, 8-7, in part because of right fielder Trenton Brooks. He went 3-5 with 3 doubles. He scored 3 times. The winner in relief was Cody Stashak. He is now 4-0. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. Providence, at 58-44, is 2 games up in the American Division.

The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Starlin Castro came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing San Antonio pitcher Phil Maton, he hit a 0-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Providence on top, 8-7.

"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Providence skipper Louis Boyd.
