Devers on Fire, 5-for-6 Against Nashville
|
After a 5-hit effort to lead Jacksonville's 17-5 victory over the Nashville Sounds, shortstop Jose Devers told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the International League-level is really something special."
The 23-year-old player earned his accolades today at First Horizon Park with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Sounds.
"His swing is getting there," said Jumbo Shrimp skipper Daren Brown, who spoke glowingly of Devers after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Jose did that to perfection today."
Jose Devers struck out in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, hit a three-run double in the 6th, singled in the 9th and singled in the 9th.
This season Devers has hit at a .281 clip with 24 RBIs, 5 home runs and 34 runs scored. He has played in 52 games.
