Free Batters Nashville Big Time
|
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-8 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for James Free, it came around today.
The 25-year-old first baseman scattered hits all over Nashville Stadium to pace the Memphis Redbirds to a 7-5 victory over the Nashville Blues.
Nashville skipper Sean Cashman told reporters in the press room that "Free deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Free hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
James Free struck out in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, struck out in the 6th, singled in the 9th, grounded out in the 10th, singled in the 13th, singled in the 14th, doubled in the 17th, walked in the 19th and walked in the 21st.
A look at his season totals shows Free with 9 home runs, .272 BA, .333 OBP, 58 RBIs and 42 runs scored.
