The New York Mets grabbed a win, 7-2, over the Cincinnati Reds at Citi Field. New York right fielder Starling Marte went 3-5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. Max Scherzer, who went 7 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 7 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 14-5. The 4th-place Mets are now 60-41, the Reds 41-60.
New York took a 5-2 lead on Marte's 18th double of the season. The 2-run double, which he hit off Tejay Antone in the bottom of the sixth, propelled New York to the win.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Marte. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
