Scherzer, Mets Force Game 3 in 16-Inning Marathon
|
New York starter Max Scherzer turned in an exceptional performance and got some last-minute help as the Mets forced the Round 2 into a decisive Game 3. The right-handed Scherzer threw 6.0 innings allowing 1 runs in a must-win situation against the Atlanta Braves, keeping New York close enough to take the 3-2 victory on a 16th-inning walk-off. The winner of the series will advance to the Round 3.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 16th inning, when New York left fielder Mark Canha, facing Lucas Luetge, had a run-scoring single. It gave the Mets the 3-2 win.
In postgame comments, Canha said he was glad to contribute to an exciting win.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Truist Park in Atlanta.
