Blue Jays Deal Athletics 4-2 Loss
|
Behind an impressive start by Chris Bassitt, Toronto beat Oakland, 4-2. Jordan Romano, now 5-5, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. The save went to Nate Pearson, his 2nd this season.
Toronto used the timely hitting of Whit Merrifield to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Blue Jays on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Sometimes winning takes more than 27 outs," said Blue Jays manager Nersha Bainco.
The Blue Jays now have a record of 82-71.
