Twins Turn Back Rangers, 3-2
|
The Minnesota Twins took Texas pitcher Jacob deGrom's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Globe Life Field. The final score had Minnesota getting past the Rangers, 3-2. deGrom went 8 innings and allowed 3 runs, striking out 12. The winning pitcher was Sonny Gray. His record is now 15-7. The right-hander went 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits for the Twins. Jhoan Duran was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 32 of 36 save opportunities.
Minnesota needed the clutch hitting of Christian Vázquez to notch the win. The catcher hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Twins on top, 3-2. For the game, Vázquez had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"We'll try to build on that win," Vázquez told the Minnesota Bulletin.
The triumph puts Minnesota at 80-65 for the season.
