While it wasn't a complete mismatch, the Winston-Salem Dash showed themselves to be the superior team in the Round 1, downing the Fayetteville Woodpeckers 3-1.

"Nothing is ever easy in the Carolina League playoffs. Whether you're a favorite or an underdog, you can't take anyone lightly or you'll get burned," said Randy Connolly, who was named series MVP after a standout offensive performance.

Winston-Salem won the final game by a 1-0 count at BB&T Ballpark to clinch its spot in the next round.

They will hope to once again rely on Connolly there, as he hit .353 with 0 home runs, 1 RBI 1 runs scored during the series.

The Winston-Salem Dash will play against the Frederick Keys in the next round. Frederick won their series against the Lynchburg Hillcats 3 games to 0. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
