GCL Takes Round 1 in Deciding Game
|
Gulf Coast Rookie League fans were certainly not disappointed with this Gulf Coast Rookie League Round 1.
The two teams were evenly matched and the series went to the final game, with the GCL Tigers prevailing over the GCL Orioles to advance to the Round 2.
GCL won the final game by a score of 3-0 at Ernest Hemingway Field and that sealed the series 2-1.
"Things were tense in our clubhouse and dugout before and during this game, but we can let loose a bit now -- the hard work is over, for now," said right fielder Kevin Kissinger, who earned MVP honors.
For the series, Kissinger hit .538 with a .538 on-base percentage. He had 0 home runs, 2 RBI and scored 2 runs.
The GCL Tigers will play against the GCL Twins in the next round. GCL had a bye in the Round 1. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
