Wood Ducks Heading to Round 2
|
The Down East Wood Ducks "proved we can handle pressure" by beating the Round 1 and eliminating the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, according to series MVP Yenci Pena.
"This is the big stage, we're off to the Round 2 and looking towards the Round 2," he said. "There's a lot of pressure at this time of year and it's only going to get more intense from here. But I think we can handle it just fine."
Down East won the final game 7-6, to wrap up the series 3-1.
Pena led his team to the series win by putting up a .462 average, with a .562 on-base percentage. He had 0 home runs, drove in 4 RBI and scored 2 runs.
The Down East Wood Ducks will play against the Wilmington Blue Rocks in the next round. Wilmington won their series against the Frederick Keys 3 games to 1. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
