Round 1 Goes the Distance, Jackson Prevails
|
The joy and relief on the faces of the Jackson Generals players was obvious as they celebrated their Round 1 win over the Birmingham Barons.
"In a series like this, the smallest thing can make the difference in how it turns out," said Jackson shortstop Sincere Smith, shortly after the 13-1 win that clinched the series 3-2. "We're happy we did what it takes to get it done."
The team is now off to the Round 2.
Smith won series MVP honors on the strength of his .333 batting average during the series. He also had a .478 on-base percentage and 0 home runs, drove in 2 RBI and scored 4 runs.
The Jackson Generals will play against the Mississippi Braves in the next round. Mississippi won their series against the Montgomery Biscuits 3 games to 0. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
