Jorge Morales was on quite a roll today as he knocked the ball all over Parkview Field, collecting 5 hits. His day of glory wasn't able to win the game, however. The South Bend Cubs got the 7-4 victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps.

"I never realized that a few hits could cause so much commotion," the shortstop said in the clubhouse after the game, crowded by reporters. "Headlines and highlights are great, but it takes a lot of luster off it that we lost."

After his first couple of hits, all eyes in the ballpark were on him each time Morales stepped into the batter's box. Even some opposing fans were pulling for him, knowing they were watching a little slice of baseball history unfold.

When asked what the secret of hitting so well is, he smiled and said "relax, concentrate, and hit the ball where they ain't."

That's exactly what he did today, as Morales finished the game with 5 hits in 9 at-bats and a line in the record book. Jorge Morales singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, struck out in the 6th, singled in the 8th, hit a solo-shot off Michael Prosecky in the 11th, doubled in the 13th, flied out in the 15th, grounded out in the 18th and flied out in the 20th.

This season Morales has banged out 15 hits in 40 at-bats for a .375 average with 4 home runs. He is getting on base at a .405 pace and his totals also include 14 RBIs and 10 runs scored.
