Chourio Slugs Mets to 8-4 Win
|
The New York Mets trumped the Chicago Cubs, 8-4, at Citi Field. New York left fielder Jackson Chourio was terrific. He hit 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Brad Glynn earned the win for New York. He lasted 6 innings, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 6. With the win, he raised his record to 11-8. Bryan Abreu notched his 32nd save in 38 chances.
Anthony Volpe, who finished 5th in the AL in triples with 7 in 2023, came through for New York with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the first. The second baseman went 2 for 4 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 1 run and collected 4 RBI.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Chourio told the New York Bulletin.
New York goes to 90-60. The win puts them 6½ games up in their division.
