Starting pitcher Domingo German did his part in helping the St. Louis Cardinals thwart the San Francisco Giants, 4-1. German, now 16-4, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Paul Sewald nailed down his 42nd save.

St. Louis center fielder Andy Farley contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the second. With two down, he hit a fastball into right-center field for a run-scoring triple. It was his 6th triple of the season and put the Cardinals ahead, 2-0.
