Carolina Wins at Home to Take 2-1 Lead in WCS
Tarik Skubal pitched a gem to help the Carolina Aviators escape with a tight 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in a low-scoring Wild Card Series contest today. The left-handed Skubal threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball in the win, just enough for the Aviators on a day when their offense dried up. Carolina now leads the best-of-7 series 2-1.

With two out in the bottom of the seventh, Jordan Groshans had a game-changing hit. The Aviators pinch hitter slammed a 2-run single off Andrew Nardi, making the score 2-1, Carolina.

Groshans said his team "played with determination."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at American Airlines Field in Charlotte.
