The St. Louis Cardinals started the Round 1 in style, downing the visiting Colorado Rockies at Busch Stadium by a score of 8-6 to grab an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Cardinals first baseman Jordan Medellin was 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2.

Third Baseman Josh Henderson made an impact for St. Louis, when he swatted a 2-run double off Gregg Potvin in the bottom of the fifth. For the contest, Henderson was 1-5 with a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.

"Every team in baseball loses," Rockies manager Koty Kochan said. "We're in the playoffs and we still have the same guys that got us here. We'll bounce back."
