Carolina got a big-time effort from pitcher Tarik Skubal, but it wasn't enough to keep the New York Mets from winning the game, 5-2. Skubal threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. The Aviators fall to 14-18 and continue their sub-.500 start to the 2026 season.

New York won the game in the bottom of the tenth inning. With one out and John Schreiber on the mound for Carolina, designated hitter Edgar Quero hit a dramatic 3-run home run, bringing Mets fans to their feet.

"What a buzz," said Quero after it was over.
