Schofield Rockets 3 HR Against Hartford Sunday, May 29th , 1949 Some days you can't have it all, as Reading Fightin Phils shortstop Dick Schofield discovered when he cracked three homers against the Hartford Yard Goats, and still lost. "I have mixed emotions about this game," he said. "It's great to hit three homers, but it's hard to be happy when you lose the game." The 19-year-old got his name in the league record books, but the Yard Goats walked away with the triumph, 11-10, at Hartford Downs. Schofield finished the day with 4 hits in 4 at-bats and 5 RBIs. "I got three balls to hit and nailed all three of them," he said in the postgame interview. Dick Schofield hit a two-run home run off Ken Jungels in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Ken Jungels in the 3rd, walked in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off Lefty O'Doul in the 8th. Currently Schofield is batting .348 with 8 hits and 4 home runs. He has knocked in 8 runs and scored 7 times. |
