del Rio Silences Seattle, 9-0
Friday, September 3rd , 1948
The Seattle Pilots had no answer for Houston Colt 45 s pitcher Alex del Rio. They failed to score a single run against him, losing, 9-0. Seattle managed only 2 hits off del Rio, who had 7 strikeouts.
The extraordinarily popular del Rio got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.
"Colt 45 s fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances, but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."
So far this year, del Rio has compiled a 6-9 record with a 3.08 ERA.
